Is this really news?

ok, so there's an article on Netscape's "offbeat news", telling of how scientists did a study on adult male rats, and were able to determine that the rats could tell the difference between a person speaking Japanese and one speaking Dutch. Big whooptie-doo! I could have told you that! I mean shit, people in Mexico speak Spanish to their dogs, right? And in the U.S., I speak English to a dog. The dog hearing Spanish knows what word "sit" is when the owner says it, just as my dog understands his Eglish "sit" command. So, what is so fucking remarkable about this "new discovery"( that there are other creatures-besides humans- that can tell apart different languages? I guess they just needed a controlled group and lots of money spent, to tell us what we already knew!? Whatever....
